Historic Jewish Press
This site contains a collection of Jewish newspapers published in various countries, languages, and time periods. It displays digital versions of each newspaper, making it possible to view the papers in their original layout. Full-text search is available for all content. Using the ActivePaper software of the Olive-Software company, the website hopes to make avilable online the majority of Jewish newspapers and journals published in the past, including extremely rare newspapers to which access has been previously impossible. Newspapers currently available and searchable are: Hebrew: Ha-Levanon (1863-1886), Ha-Magid (1856-1903) English: Palestine Post (1932-1950) French: Israel (Cairo, 1920-1939), L'Avenir Illustre (Casablanca 1926-1940), Paix et Droit (Paris, 1921-1940), Bulletin de l'Alliance (Paris, 1860-1913) The 1925-1955 issues of the Hebrew newspaper Davar will soon be added to the site. Funding has also been recently received which will enable the digitization of an additional 250,000-300,000 pages of Hebrew newspapers. This website's initiators, Tel Aviv University and the National Library of Israel (Jewish National and University Library), together with the Library of the Alliance israelite universelle, encourage additional partners and contributors - be they academic, public, or private groups or individuals - to join in this project, with the goal of expanding the collection and establishing within it distinctive departments organized by language and locality.
